Gaiety

Wow-it has been some time since I last posted.  Throw in a vacation and working on a new approach to my painting and I've not wanted to post anything.  Here is a mixed media (acrylic, acrylic ink, collage and oil pastel) that pleases me.  Hope you enjoy it.

Three Pomegranates

This painting is very textured which gives more interest to the work.  I always finish my paintings with a satin acrylic varnish applied for additional enhancement and protection.

Pomegranates with an Orange

 .
Pomegranates and oranges for some reason always seem to remind me of the Christmas season.
Have a Happy Holiday and thanks for looking!

Hydrangea Mass

The inspiration for this painting came from an arrangement shown in a photo spread in an interior design magazine.  The painting is not at all like the photo but the basis for my imagination came from there.  Thanks for looking.

A Black Vase with Gardenias

This painting is from a photo taken over a decade ago of some gardenias from our yard.  Still trying to loosen up and this painting is getting there.  Thanks for looking.

Oranges in a Bowl

This bowl of oranges was taken from our table to the studio this morning to work as models.  After sketching them on the board that had been covered with the paint left from yesterday's session, I covered the oranges.  Then I started painting not to refer to them again.  This allows me to play.  Having the texture from the paint underneath really brings life to the painting.

This is a departure from what I normally do.  Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking.

The painting has been varnished for further enhancement and protection.

Irises on a Yellow Stool

I love irises and I have several varieties planted in my yard.  Hopefully, my bearded ones do well this summer. I should be having lots of challenging exercise as I attempt to portray them.  Thanks for looking.

Three Strawberries

The background purple was repainted a couple of times.  Acrylics dry darker than the original application and I just wasn't getting the contrast I needed.  I am really enjoying working with a looser, more expressive approach.  It's fun to see what can be done with multiple layers and using different ways of applying the paint.  Thanks for looking.

Solitary

This acrylic is actually from a pastel that I did several years ago.   I've always liked the composition and decided to redo it acrylics.  The pastel was a lot more realistic but that's not my goal this time.  Instead I am trying to go much more loose and abstracted.  Thanks for looking.

Two Persimmons on Purple

I thought it would be fun to paint two warm orange persimmons on their opposite color, a cool blue violet against a red violet.

Lemons

Before I used the lemon for tonight's fish dinner, I had to paint it, of course.  The painting has been varnished for additional enhancement and protection.

Sunflower Quartet

The "Art Girls", at our critique on Friday night, said to make some changes and I did.  Here's the result which I like much better.

The painting has been varnished for additional enhancement and protection.

Two Figs and a Pear

A fun day in the studio today.  What I would give for some fresh fig preserves!

This 6x8 inch acrylic is painted on archival canvas panel and has been varnished.

I will find out on Thursday whether or not I will need surgery for my broken foot.  I hope I get good news.
