Just Keep Swimming

I wasn't sure what would develop from all the preliminary marks that I made in the early layers but out popped this fish who just keeps swimming just like I have to just keep painting.

This Spring's Hydrangeas

Though it was very cold here yesterday, I am beginning to see pots of hydrangeas ready for sale. Also, the Gold Finches are getting brighter in color and some plants are budding with their flowers.  Perhaps, that means that spring will be here soon?

Two Eggs in a Bowl

Rainy Day Bouquet

The inspiration for this painting came from an arrangement shown in a photo spread in an interior design magazine.  The painting is not at all like the photo but the basis for my imagination came from there.  Thanks for looking.

Oranges in a Bowl

This bowl of oranges was taken from our table to the studio this morning to work as models.  After sketching them on the board that had been covered with the paint left from yesterday's session, I covered the oranges.  Then I started painting not to refer to them again.  This allows me to play.  Having the texture from the paint underneath really brings life to the painting.

Red Tulips and Blue

Tulips on a Red Table

This imaginative floral is an experimentation.  I wanted to see if I like going in this direction, i.e.,  a more stylized rendition of tulips in a vase.  I'd love to hear what your thoughts are.

Two Peaches, Two Hydrangeas

 

Time in  the studio has been scarce lately. Time will remain at a premium as Hubby recovers from his surgery.  Also, I've been working on some larger pieces.  Thanks for your patience. 

Three Peaches

I showed this painting to one of my art buddies and she made some suggestions (Thanks, Tracy).  My first attempt at painting this was tight and I had fallen into trying to make it more realistic. Using the wet in wet method was not giving me the results that I wanted. Today, I mainly used thin layers of dry brush and painted over what I done earlier after reshaping the bowl and shadow.  To me, part of the beauty of acrylics, is that it can be transparent and that color can be built up in layers as it is in pastel, my other media.

My postings have been irregular and they will probably be more so in the near future.  Hubby may be facing back surgery and so I will painting when I can catch a few minutes.  I have a few other pieces in the works but I am trying to go slower and not post unless I am OK with it.  I'm trying to not feel so compelled to have something to post.

Lemons

Before I used the lemon for tonight's fish dinner, I had to paint it, of course.  The painting has been varnished for additional enhancement and protection.

Strawberries

Its been awhile since I last posted but that doesn't mean I haven't been painting.  Seems that I want to keep "tweeking" which is good up to a point. Also, I have been working on some larger pieces and that takes a bit longer.

I know, excuses, excuses.  I am still trying to go simpler and looser; I think this is getting closer.
