It has truly been a long time since the last post. During that time I have had to limit my painting time due to now being a care giver to a loved one. But I do have the chance to paint some. I have continued with mixed media but I am working on becoming much looser. This is one of my novelty paintings. This painting sold but there will be more like it posted soon.Dolores Holthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14794724920042651986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170977751986742009.post-64025648217571949432016-08-08T17:30:00.001-07:002016-08-08T17:37:06.367-07:00Index Card a Day (ICAD)

Hi Everyone,

It has really been awhile since I posted but you can see I'm making a bit of a change. I have wanted to play even more with my art and I discovered mixed media art journals and then ICADs. I came across the latter recently and am have fun just experimenting. I'm not doing the challenges found on Daisyyellow.com as I was late for that but for now, I will work on just learning new techniques, experiment and have fun.

Yes, the ICADs are done on index cards which I will do too but I really like repurposing all that junk mail we get. (I will keep the size 6x4inches.) This is the first done on junk mail. I finger painted it first with acrylic paints to block out the printing, added stamping and fussy cut some napkins which I adhered with acrylic medium, did some doodling and added a stamped saying.

Thanks for looking.Dolores Holthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14794724920042651986noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170977751986742009.post-90679113486800445892016-06-27T17:50:00.000-07:002016-06-27T17:50:43.591-07:00More

This bouquet was "cut out" by using a negative painting technique from a jumble of all sorts of colorful marks I had made all over the panel. I also added a large flower for a focal point and then used oil pastel to add some additional line work. Everything was very intuitive.

Another long time since I posted; no good excuses. This painting is mixed media (acrylic and oil pastels) on a prepared hardboard. It uses both negative and positive painting techniques. Wow-it has been some time since I last posted. Throw in a vacation and working on a new approach to my painting and I've not wanted to post anything. Here is a mixed media (acrylic, acrylic ink, collage and oil pastel) that pleases me. This little painting is my abstracted idea of one of the most beautiful flowers to me. I never had any luck in growing them but maybe painting them will make up for that lack. Painting mixed media has been very relaxing for me, not easy, but fun. Sometimes, at night, I have a hard time falling asleep because my brain is whirling with possibilities and I can't wait until I am back in my tiny studio.
Hello everyone,

It has been quite awhile since I last posted so I will catch you up. There has been much to do as far as catching up with everyday life, but really, the main reason I haven't been in the studio is that I wasn't wanting to face the canvas. So I came to accept the idea that I was very much product oriented which isn't all bad but for me, it isn't good. Each day I felt like a failure if I didn't have something that I could say was sale worthy or had artistic merit. I suppose I had a lot of left over thoughts from art school and from working in the graphic fields. I had stopped playing and experimenting.

So I came across mixed media and intuitive painting and decided to combine some them in a way. My fingers are now some of my brushes and I am stamping and stenciling and adding other mediums. It is hard to get the need to produce a product out of mind but I am trying. At least, I'm having fun. As always, thanks for looking.Dolores Holthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14794724920042651986noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170977751986742009.post-35125254777692674282016-03-15T14:08:00.000-07:002016-03-15T14:08:17.641-07:00Quietude

My-it has been awhile since I posted last. Last week was one of those when I couldn't seem to paint anything. This painting was going nowhere until I took it to my art group and they confirmed what I didn't like. They helped me focus on what I needed to change and I am happier with it now.
