This painting was also in my recent show. It comes either framed in a black plein air style frame for $150 or unframed for $100.00. Please contact me and let me know your preference. The painting also has been finished with an acrylic satin varnish for additional enhancement and protection.
This was going to be a simple and quick daily painting. First, I started out with a lime with 3 strawberries on the yellow background. Didn't like that, so I added more strawberries. I still wasn't pleased so I then added the stripped cloth. Now, I am ok with it.
The background purple was repainted a couple of times. Acrylics dry darker than the original application and I just wasn't getting the contrast I needed. I am really enjoying working with a looser, more expressive approach. It's fun to see what can be done with multiple layers and using different ways of applying the paint. Thanks for looking.
I was trying to tweak a painting that I started Monday morning that evening. I was frustrated and in a moment of pique, covered the painting in black paint. Then I just started painting into the black paint an imaginary set-up and this is the result. I like the expressive, painterly quality and the distortion of the objects. And it was great fun painting it. Now, if I can continue with that freedom.
This is a second version of this morning's still life set-up but this time I went larger as I hoped to be more expressive with my brush work, etc. I think I succeeded but still want to be even more expressive. There's always tomorrow and the next painting.
Here's the first version. It is 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches painted on a black canvas panel. It's not for sale as I'm using it for an experimental project of mine.
As you may be able to guess, there will be another version of this set up tomorrow. I still had some time and paint left for painting so I took advantage of it and painted a second version which will be posted tomorrow. There were so many subtle reflections I wanted to keep playing. The painting will be varnished prior to shipping. Thanks for looking.
Its been awhile since I last posted but that doesn't mean I haven't been painting. Seems that I want to keep "tweeking" which is good up to a point. Also, I have been working on some larger pieces and that takes a bit longer.
I know, excuses, excuses. I am still trying to go simpler and looser; I think this is getting closer.
